Asynchronous Session Tips

What You Need

Microphone

This may be built into your laptop or computer, or you may use an external device such as a USB microphone or headset for a better audio experience. You can select options to discourage background noise, if available.

Webcam

A camera may already be built into your laptop, but you can also use an external USB camera for video conferencing

Internet

Utilize a fast internet connection for the best quality recording

Location

Consider your location including background and lighting. Use one of our TechX 2024 branded backgrounds to provide consistency among presenters (not required). This can be done in both Google Meet and Zoom.

Lighting

Look behind you and make sure any window blinds or shades are closed to avoid backlighting. Avoid sitting directly underneath a bright light. Use natural light when possible. Place a lamp or personal lighting device (such as a ring light) in front of you, behind your computer, so that your face is well illuminated.

Clothing

Avoid high-contrast clothing like a bright white shirt and bright red tie or scarf. Solid colors on clothing are usually safest, as patterns can be distracting. Avoid clothes with writing, brands, and icons.

File Export

Use high definition (HD) whenever possible. If your system requires a size, 1920×1080 is typical HD dimensions. Upload into Google Drive and share with techx@wfu.edu.
