Leading an RxPedition: A Case Study in Immersive Ludic Simulation for Teaching Drug Development

Introduce and discuss the many iterations of my ongoing high-level ludic simulation-class: Drug Discovery and Development. I’ll start by laying out the goals and intention of the project at the start, describe the many trials and tribulations throughout the years from stubborn technology to antiquated pedagogic expectations, then highlight the current state of the class. A major point will be on the importance of design around the experience and how technology can assist or hinder those efforts, rather than embracing technofetishistic primacy.

Optimizing Audio for Online Meetings and Recordings

What good is an online meeting or recording if the audience can’t hear it clearly?

In this session, we’ll discuss 3 ways to optimize your audio:

1. Finding the best space and using the correct microphone for the job
2. Selecting the correct settings in Zoom (or the app you’re using)
3. Editing the audio afterwards if you record it

(Note: Your audio and video quality also depend on your internet connection.
Here is more information about Zoom system requirements.)

Digital Portfolio Creation

This presentation is mainly about the digital portfolio I made for the EDU 101 class I took in my freshman year. This is an online website that contains some personal information about me which I included my arts. I learned how to use Adobe like Adobe Express, Adobe Light Room, Adobe Photoshop and and how to make podcast by Audacity and digital video story throughout the class. I become more technologically proficient. More importantly, I plan to put my digital portfolio into my resume as a complement to my skill.

Art and Accessibility: Universal Design and Exhibition Experiences

This session explores collaborative and future-looking efforts to use technology and tactiles to deliver a more accessible and inclusive art exhibition. The combined efforts of Art Collections staff, art interns, and the IS Technology Accessibility team brought new and foundational features to the Reece Collection 60th Anniversary Exhibition at Wake Forest University. These include image descriptions delivered via audio and text (Kaltura and Bloomberg Connects), QR code and braille label information delivery, 3D-Printed Tactile Art Models, tactile landmarks in the physical space, and accessibility information delivered via the website. This effort not only enriches the current exhibition but also paves the way for developing standardized technology-mediated and physical accessibility techniques for future art and museum spaces at Wake Forest University.

Painting with Ancient Pigments at the WakerSpace

Thanks to the generous support of Paul Whitener and a WakerSpace Faculty Fellowship, I have incorporated a new module into my first-year seminar: Painting with Ancient Pigments. Students encounter the vibrant color of the ancient Mediterranean world — as it really was, not in faded, white marble misrepresentations that serve European colonial agendas — and they do so hands-on, by taking pigments used by ancient artists, mixing them with binders available to ancient artists, and painting replicas of ancient sculpture.

Digital Essays as a Form of Health Storytelling

Students in my HMN370: Medicine and the Humanities class produced videos as their final project. This was a group project in which students chose a topic relevant to the class content that explores a question related to health and presented their arguments in a creative way. Students embraced their interests and skills to create stories about social determinants of health, chronic pain, CRISPR technologies, and healing spaces in various format, such as news coverage, comics, and more. The final exam included a collective watch party of all the videos with a short Q&A sessions where students could share their creation process and achievements.
