Patricia Dos Santos is a professor and associate chair in the Department of Chemistry and faculty member in the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Program. Dr. Dos Santos research interests include the synthesis of vitamin and cofactors that contains sulfur in their chemical structures. Active research projects in her lab include the investigation of specific features of cysteine desulfurases that can be targeted on the discovery of new antimicrobial targets and the identification of biological metallocofactor intermediates that are relevant for the activation of biological components involved in nitrogen fixation. At Wake Forest University, Dos Santos teaches advanced biochemistry lecture and laboratory courses where students explore the structure and function of proteins and nucleic acids.
